Faculty Profiles

Jacquelyn Coe
Associate Professor of Mathematics, Mathematics Department Chair
Email: jcoe@cocc.edu
Jacquelyn loves to help students make connections between different areas of mathematics, and to realize that the language of mathematics can be understood by anyone willing to put in the effort. Before teaching, she began her career working in education research at the University of British Columbia and California State University, Sacramento.
The department's resident Canadian, Jacquelyn holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Trinity Western University, and a master's degree in mathematics education from Portland State University. She has served on various state-level committees in Oregon and currently is co-chair of the Oregon Math Chairs Council. She teaches a wide range of classes including Calculus, Math in Society and Culinary Math.

Kelsey Adams
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Email: kadams14@cocc.edu
Kelsey decided to be a community college instructor while taking math classes at a local community college. Since then, she has earned a master's degree in mathematics from Portland State University, and has taught a wide range of courses at Mt. Hood Community College, Portland State University and Portland Community College, before landing at COCC. She aims to help students find creativity and curiosity in math. When she's not "math-ing," she's dancing. And if she is "math-ing," she might also be dancing.

Jenna Arlie
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Email: jarlie@cocc.edu
Jenna loves teaching math, often using math memes to bring extra joy into the classroom. The program's developmental Math coordinator, she teaches in the STEM pathway. Jenna holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in math education from Northern Arizona University. She started with COCC in 2024.

Monte Cheney
Associate Professor of Mathematics
Email: mcheney@cocc.edu
Since beginning his teaching career in 1998, Monte has enjoyed the opportunity to share his passion for math and statistics at COCC. With master's degrees in both areas from Washington State University, he has also served as a statistical consultant to area businesses and researchers. Monte's experience teaching nontraditional students and his background in engineering and physics equipped him well for a four-year hiatus in 2006, where he taught mathematics, statistics and general physics at Thailand's Asia-Pacific International University. After the economic downturn in 2010, he returned to COCC to support the influx of developmental students. Since then, Monte's primary focus has been statistics education, preparing future teachers of mathematics, and finding creative ways to support students who traditionally struggle with math.

Maud Comboul
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Email: mcomboul@cocc.edu
Maud enjoys helping students build confidence and curiosity in mathematics. Before joining COCC, she conducted postdoctoral research in the University of Southern California's climate dynamics group and collaborated with national and international research institutions, including the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis.
Her work focuses on data-driven modeling of complex natural and urban systems, drawing on stochastic simulations, Bayesian and Monte Carlo methods and machine learning. She also has experience in time-series analysis, graph modeling and image processing. She holds a master's degree in applied mathematics and machine learning from École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay, a leading French grande école, and completed her Ph.D. in computational engineering at the University of Southern California. Maud brings this blend of applied mathematics, data science and real-world problem-solving into her teaching. Outside the classroom, she finds inspiration in contemporary dance.

Kristy Gilmore
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Email: kgilmore4@cocc.edu
Kristy teaches courses ranging from Technical Math to Calculus to Fundamentals of Elementary Mathematics. She holds a Master of Science for Teachers in teaching mathematics from Portland State University and a bachelor's in mathematics from Whitman College. With over two decades of teaching experience, Kristy began her education career teaching high school. Her diverse teaching background includes innovative courses like geometry in construction, where students built houses in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, demonstrating her commitment to real-world mathematical applications.
