General

• How do I log into Canvas?

  Registered COCC students can log into Canvas through the Canvas login on the Student Login using their COCC username and password.

  • Why am I seeing "no Account Found" when I try to login to Canvas?
    • Registered COCC students and Community education students have separate login portals. The COCC student login can be found at: https://cocc.instructure.com/. And the Community education login can be found at: https://cocc.instructure.com/login/canvas.

• Why can’t I see my Canvas course(s)?

  • Recently enrolled?
    • It can take up to 3 hours for enrollment to sync to Canvas and for your course to become visible on your Canvas dashboard.
  • Enrolled more than 3 hours ago?
    • Before the start of the term, Canvas courses can be hidden by the instructor of the course prior to the first day of the term, but will become available shortly after the first day of term.
    • If a course is no longer visible that was accessible to you at the start of term, you may have not completed the necessary requirements to stay in the course and were dropped, or were waitlisted and did not get a seat in the course.
  • After the term?
    • Canvas courses will remain on your Canvas dashboard and on the All Courses menu in a read-only state after the term ends. Some instructors may restrict access to the course after the term ends, and the course will no longer be visible.

• What is the Online Orientation and how do I sign up?

  Students who want to take online credit courses need to first complete the Orientation for Online Classes prerequisite course.

  You can sign up for the Online Orientation by following the instructions on the Online Orientation page.

• How do I see my course grades?

  • Canvas grades can be viewed on the grades page within your course. Grades can contain a point score, percentage, or letter grade, and can contain feedback from your instructor on assignments.

• How do I submit an assignment?

  • Canvas allows many options for turning in an assignment depending on what your instructor has set for the assignment. Some options include: file uploads, text entry, and media recordings.

• How do I take a quiz?

  • Canvas Quizzes can be used by your instructor to test you on course material. Quiz questions can be multiple choice, true/false, essay responses, and more. Depending on the quiz settings set by your instructor some quizzes may also be timed, or be retaken.
    • Note: Using a web browser is recommended when taking a quiz, as some quiz features may not be available on the Canvas App.

• How do I contact my instructor?

  • The Canvas inbox can be found in the left navigation menu in Canvas. The inbox can be used to send and receive messages from your instructor or other recipients. You will also receive notifications in your COCC email for any messages you receive in your Canvas inbox.
  • You can also contact your instructor by email. Instructor emails can be found in the course syllabus, In your Bobcat web account, or on the Class schedule page and directory.

• How do I reply to Discussions?

  • Canvas Discussions allow students to communicate with one another within the course.

• How do I add images and files for a quiz or discussion?

  • The Rich content editor supports the upload of images and files for quiz essay questions and discussions.

• How do I join a group?

  • Canvas Groups can be set up by your instructor within the course that will allow you have a workspace with fellow classmates to chare files, collaborate on papers, hold meetings, and start group discussions.

• How do I submit a peer review?

  • Your instructor may have peer review assignments, that allow you to leave feedback for classmates on their work.

Account

• How can I add a picture to my profile?

  Canvas allows you to update your Profile image from within your Account profile menu.

  • You can edit your Canvas account profile to include your preferred pronouns to display next to your name within Canvas.

  • You can find our chosen name FAQ's here, with instructions on how to update your preferred name.
    • Note: Your name in Canvas may not update immediately, and may take up to 24 hours before changes to become visible.

• How do I change my Canvas notifications?

  • Canvas will send you notifications to you and your COCC email by default. You can modify your Canvas notifications settings in your account to change how Canvas communicates with you.

  The Canvas app is available for IOS and Mobile devices.

  

  Note: Canvas is not supported on mobile browsers, and some features may not function correctly. It is recommended to use the Canvas App when accessing Canvas on a mobile device

Course Evaluations

• What are student course evaluations?

  Course evaluations are short forms where students can provide feedback and information to faculty.

  More information about course evaluations can be found on the COCC eLearning Course Evaluations FAQ page.

• When can I evaluate my classes?

  Evaluations for full-term courses open 14 days before the end of your course. You will have until 11:59PM on the Friday before finals week to submit your evaluations.
  
  Evaluations for Part-of-term courses open the day after the course ends, and remain open for 14 days.

• How do I access my course evaluations?

  Evaluations can be accessed through reminder links sent to students' COCC email during the evaluation period, or through Canvas by following the instructions below:

  1. Log in to Canvas
  2. Click Account
  3. Click Course Evaluations

  Alternatively, students can access the evaluation site by clicking the "Course Evaluations" link in the Canvas course menu. This link will appear in the course menu automatically when course evaluations are open.
  
  During active evaluation periods, a pop-up will open when logging into Canvas, and email reminders with links to the evaluations platform will be sent.

• What can I do if I missed the deadline to submit my evaluations?

  Evaluations cannot be completed after the deadline. It is not possible for students to complete evaluations late.

• I keep getting reminders to complete my evaluations. How can I get them to stop?

  Email will stop being triggered when evaluations are completed, OR if the respondent has chosen to opt out. To opt out, open the survey link and click the Opt-Out button in the upper right.

• Can I modify an evaluation that I have already submitted?

  If you need to reset your evaluation, please send an email to cocc_course_evaluations@cocc.edu with your name and details of the course you need to reset and the administrator will reset your evaluation for you up until the evaluation period ends.

• What if I have more than one instructor for a course?

  You will see the questions for each instructor in the evaluation for that course. Each question will the have name of the instructor you are evaluating at the top.

• What questions are asked on the student evaluations?
