Career Possibilities in Nursing Assistant

Career Possibilities    Hospitals Rehabilitation centers Long-term care Private caregiving Hospice Home health care

The Nursing Assistant class prepares students for a wide variety of entry-level careers in health care. After successfully completing the class and passing the state exam and background check, students earn certification as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) from the Oregon State Board of Nursing. CNAs help patients with activities of daily living and other health care needs. CNAs work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Additionally, Nursing Assistant graduates can use their training as a launching pad for health care careers that require additional education. For example, program graduates have later become nurses and paramedics. CNAs who work in the field for a certain number of hours receive additional points toward their COCC Nursing application.
